S2E5 Part Three: Military and Mental Health

The final installment of our military and mental health episode features Dave and Stacey Campisano, founders of 22Mohawks. 22Mohawks is a non-profit organization working as an immediate resource for veterans after their service.

Did you know it can take almost 2 years for a veteran to receive a service animal? The suicide rate for veterans who receive a dog is 0%. I’m going to say that again…0%! This is a staggering statistic compared to the debilitating rate of veterans who die from suicide (a reported average of 22 a day).

Dave Campisano, Founder and President of 22Mohawks

22Mohawks works to bring shelter dogs to veterans, provides trauma counseling, and hosts a yearly “jump” with veterans who sign up to skydive together as a team. All of these resources are the kind of work we need to make a difference and fight the stigma surrounding this topic.

Stacey Ann Campisano, CEO 22Mohawks

This episode discusses heartfelt and honest conversations about the struggles of those who have served, how to deal with the change and reestablish a life after service, and outlets for those who might be struggling.

Please, if you or any veteran (or anyone in general) you know who might be struggling- find the resources, ask for help, and know there are so many people who are here, rooting, and ready to support you. Be Well!
